Language is a tool, one
that can be used to either build or destroy mountains. It can save lives and
ruin them, misguide the youth, or lead the people to a higher state of
consciousness. Through the medium known as hip hop, Phynite chooses to utilize
his language to teach. His words are a rose rising through a thicket of useless
brush grown by the current trends of artists using their language to stray
humans from universal truth and acceptance. Where other artists use the written
word to mislead the masses into darkness, Phynite’s words are a beacon of light
in a dimly lit room. Although a man of faith and family first, Phynite’s
unmatched flow and clever lyricism makes him a staple in the hip hop community
of Central Pennsylvania.
Rhyming since the age
of 14, Phynite, now 29, has been rocking shows in Pennsylvania and beyond for
the last 8 years alongside friend and deejay, Unit 13. Armed with a captivating
voice and a razor-sharp delivery, Phynite’s performances are energetic, interactive,
and thought-provoking. With roughly 200 shows together under their belts, this
dynamic duo has performed at the legendary Scribble Jam Festival in Cincinnati,
Ohio in 2007, PorAmor 2 (Central PA’s only hip-hop festival) in 2008, and has
opened up for many hip-hop greats on the classic and independent circuit,
including: The Wu-Tang Clan, KRS-ONE, bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Blueprint, Manchild
of Mars Ill, Illogic, Playdough, Black Sheep, and The Pharcyde.
In 2007, Phynite’s
release A Step In The Right Direction (Produced by The Visiting, aka
Dukes Go Up) was heralded “by far the best local hip-hop record that I’ve ever
heard,” by Dugan Nash of Pennsylvania’s own, Fly Magazine. Also,
Indie-Music.com named him an “Editor’s Pick” in 2007, giving his song “Where
The Road Ends” an honorable mention nod for the “Top 25 MP3’s of 2007”. Large
Talk (2009) continued his legacy as he (again stated by Dugan Nash of Fly
Magazine) “relentlessly attacks the beat and twists words and, more importantly,
real ideas around in a way that encourages a lean-in-and-listen-closely
experience.”
In 2010, the
highly-successful Night Owls compilation series from Syntax Records
featured the song “A Beautiful Thing” from A Step In The Right Direction
on their 5th installment, Bird
Flu. Several solid contributions can also be heard on the collective Team
Omega’s Alpha Strike on Man of War’s War
Records. Two years, a wife, a child, and a Master’s Degree in Education
later, Boomsday (a 5-song digital EP produced by Dukes Go Up), marked
Phynite’s return to the microphone. Currently, a new 7 song collection titled The
Conduit (produced by The Boomjacks) is about finished thanks to engineering
by Apollo’s Sun and will hit your ears for free in the winter of 2013-2014.
